Gil Cabrera

Gil Cabrera has been an attorney in San Diego for twenty years. Prior to forming The Cabrera Firm, Mr. Cabrera was a senior associate with Cooley Godward Kronish LLP and an associate with Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP where he specialized in business litigation, securities litigation, intellectual property, employment law and white collar criminal defense. Mr. Cabrera has worked for companies with a variety of business lines, including software, design and manufacturing, life sciences, real estate development and service industries.  During the course of litigation, Mr. Cabrera often counseled clients regarding insurance coverage issues and worked with insurance carriers to make sure client insurance policies were fully utilized. As part of his practice, Mr. Cabrera also assisted and was a team member in several transactions providing a litigator's perspective and experience in the drafting of agreements between parties.

Mr. Cabrera's experience includes representing companies and individuals in trials both large and small. He has successfully represented some of the largest companies in the country as well as small local companies and individuals. He has also represented companies and individuals before government agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the United States Department of Justice and the California Attorney General's Office. Most recently, Mr. Cabrera secured a $2 million jury verdict on a breach of contract claim. Mr. Cabrera is admitted to practice law before all state and federal courts in California and the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the litigation section of the State Bar of California, the Federal Bar Association and the San Diego County Bar Association.  Mr. Cabrera joined the San Diego Lawyers Club in his first year of practice and has been a Sustaining Member for several years.  He has also been a past Barrister of the Welsh Chapter of the American Inns of Court and a past member the American Business Trial Lawyers Association.

Mr. Cabrera received his J.D. from Boston College in 1997 where he served as Notes Editor for the Third World Law Journal and was a Presidential Scholar. Mr. Cabrera received his B.A. in Political Science from California State University, Fullerton in 1994.

In February 2014, the San Diego City Council appointed Mr. Cabrera to the San Diego Convention Center Corporation Board of Directors.  Mr. Cabrera also presently serves on the Board of Directors of the San Diego LGBT Community Center and Alliance for Hope International.


Mr. Cabrera is a former Co-Chair for the US District Court for the Southern District's Lawyer Representative Panel to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Cabrera is a former Chair and Commissioner of the City of San Diego Ethics Commission which monitors and enforces the City's governmental campaign finance and ethics laws and proposes new governmental ethics law reforms. Mr. Cabrera also served as the Co-Chair of the San Diego Chief of Police's Use of Force Task Force in 2000-2001, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego and Member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America National Board of Directors. Mr. Cabrera is a 2001 graduate of LEAD San Diego.


Mr. Cabrera lives in San Diego with his wife Krista and two daughters.
